Abstract

One of the biggest questions in modern science that is still being discussed today is related to the existence of nature and man, which is trying to deny the divine element in the creation of both. The infectious understanding of secularism to date has led to the disharmony of the relationship between science and Islam, as well as disrupted the process of integration of both, especially in the field of education. A study found that there are teachers who are unable to connect faith and science and vice versa. Thus, this study will analyse 1) the views of Islamic scholars and 2) the teacher's perception on the question of the existence of nature and man. This is to see the extent of the teacher's understanding regarding the integration of science and Islam in this issue. This case study also uses a mixed method approach by analysing documents, interviews, and questionnaires through Google Forms and WhatsApp applications. Respondents were comprised of 9 science teachers and 2 Islamic religious education teachers (PAI) at a national school in Kajang, Selangor. The findings show that the majority of Islamic scholars support the theory of the existence of nature (The Big Bang Theory), while minorities support the theory of human existence (Darwin's Theory of Evolution). There were also a few of the respondents who rejected both theories of existence. However, they are divided on integrating science with Islam in schools as opposed to Islamic education with science due to the condition of non-Muslim students. In conclusion, there are differences of opinion among Islamic scholars and teachers on the issue of the existence of nature and man as well as the relationship of science with Islam. It is suggested that further large-scale studies be done to be generalized so that the integration model of nature, man, and God can be applied in the field of education.

Abstrak
Persoalan besar dalam sains moden yang masih dibincangkan sehingga kini ialah berkaitan dengan kewujudan alam & manusia yang cuba dinafikan unsur ketuhanan dalam penciptaan kedua-duanya. Fahaman sekularisme yang menular sehingga kini menyebabkan ketidakharmonian hubungan antara sains dan Islam serta mengganggu-gugat proses pengintegrasian kedua-duanya khususnya dalam bidang pendidikan. Kajian mendapati terdapat guru yang tidak berupaya menghubungkan akidah dan sains, begitu juga sebaliknya. Justeru, kajian ini akan menganalisis 1) pandangan sarjana Islam dan 2) persepsi guru berkaitan persoalan besar kewujudan alam & manusia. Hal ini untuk melihat sejauh mana kefahaman guru berkaitan integrasi sains dan Islam dalam isu tersebut. Kajian kes ini juga menggunakan pendekatan campuran (mixed method) dengan menganalisis dokumen, temu bual dan soal selidik melalui aplikasi Google Form dan WhatsApp. Responden terdiri daripada 9 orang guru sains dan guru pendidikan agama Islam (PAI) di sebuah sekolah kebangsaan di Kajang, Selangor. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan majoriti sarjana Islam menyokong teori kewujudan alam (The Big Bang Theory), manakala minoriti menyokong teori kewujudan manusia (Darwin’s Theory of Evolution). Adapun responden dari kalangan guru, kesemua mereka menolak kedua-dua teori kewujudan tersebut. Walau bagaimanapun, mereka berbelah bahagi dalam mengintegrasikan sains dengan Islam di sekolah, berbanding pendidikan Islam dengan sains kerana faktor keberadaaan murid non muslim. Kesimpulannya terdapat perbezaan pendapat dalam kalangan sarjana Islam dan guru dalam isu kewujudan alam & manusia serta hubungan sains dengan Islam. Dicadangkan kajian lanjut berskala besar dilakukan untuk digeneralisasikan supaya model integrasi alam, manusia dan Tuhan dapat diaplikasikan dalam bidang pendidikan.
